FAQs
Homeopaths work with the individual to restore a state of health. They do not diagnose or treat a disease, unlike practitioners of mainstream medicine, they recognize and treat the unique state of each individual’s vital energy as expressed in mental, emotional, and physical symptoms and characteristics. The homeopath seeks to remove the ailment by using remedies that stimulate the individual’s own inherent ability to heal and thus encourage the body to cure, instead of simply suppressing symptoms.
The classical homeopath selects the single most appropriate remedy in a potency that most closely matches the illness by investigating the individual’s state of health in a thorough case-taking. They analyze the case by using the symptoms and characteristics that show the uniqueness of the individual with special emphasis placed on a known cause of the sickness or any striking symptoms or themes. After taking the case, a selection of the most similar remedy is determined through differentiation. The medicine that most closely matches the symptoms and the individual is prescribed in a single and minute dose. Only one remedy is ever prescribed at one time.
The client’s case is followed carefully and any changes that have occurred since taking the prescribed remedy are analyzed. The remedy and its action will be evaluated so that the course of healing can continue until complete healing is achieved.
Beyond this distinction, the classical Hahnemannian homeopath also practices in a coherent way according to the principles of homeopathy as explained in Hahnemann’s Organon of Medicine.
Naturopathy basically refers to any method of treatment that depends on lifestyle and diet modifications to tackle a particular disease or disorder. Naturopaths study a variety of alternative healing methods, including homeopathy, but receive what amounts to a basic training in these modalities. Homeopaths specialize in homeopathic medicine, which is a complete medical system in its own right. A Homeopath will prescribe a similar medicine to treat the root of the disease and ultimately cure the ailment naturally from within outward.
For the past one hundred years, the pharmaceutical and insurance industries have gained increasing influence over the news media and what type of medicine is available to the public. They have managed to keep factual, proven information about homeopathy from the general public. There are plenty of commercials and advertising for drugs to treat X, Y or Z condition, showcasing the horrible side effects that are often times worse and more life threatening than the condition they treat!
Even today, after homeopathy has become more known, there are virtually no fair articles or TV programs that educate people about the benefits, safety and efficacy of homeopathy.
It’s rather sad that pharmaceutical drug companies are threatened by the effectiveness and safety of homeopathy. Pharmaceutical companies know homeopathy would ruin the drug industry’s profits because too many patients would abandon these harmful and ineffective drugs in favor of safe and effective homeopathic treatment.
The Homeopaths role is that of a “Detective”. It has been said that the work of the homeopath is to observe the client, process and reflect on the gathered information, and then determine the underlying disturbance. This process can be thought of as a mystery, wherein the homeopath attempts to discover where the flow of energy in the body has been blocked or impeded. Each signal/symptom offered by the client can be thought of as a clue to determine the correct remedy. The client’s eye contact, body posture, breathing patterns, voice quality, and expressions are also noted as potential clues.
When all of the information about the client’s physical, mental and emotional symptoms has been documented, then the final search for the answer begins. The homeopath’s goal is not only to remove the symptoms, but also to eliminate the essential causal problem by stimulating the body’s natural curative powers. This is the reason for obtaining such a detailed analysis of the client.
The goal of the homeopathic treatment is to encourage the body to return to a natural state of balance and health. Like the missing pieces of a puzzle, homeopathic medicines help “fill-in” the gaps in the body to stimulate a person’s own healing potential and energies. When this occurs, the person will have access to the body’s natural strength and wisdom, so that more conventional medicines and chemical-based substances may not be needed.
In today’s conventional practice, the physician spends very little time with the client, and is not interested in the root of the disease.
It is recommended that you maintain your relationship with your GP or specialist. When necessary homeopathic and conventional approaches can be used alongside one another to give the most effective and appropriate medical care.
Homeopathy is a beautiful system of holistic medicine that appeals to clients interested in taking a more natural approach to health & vitality. Most clients have a primary care provider and if needed, specialists. I work from a holistic perspective to improve overall vitality.
Symptoms are the language of a disease — the body’s attempt to balance itself. Without symptoms, a person could have a potentially life-threatening illness with no way of identifying it. There have been many cancer patients who reported that they hadn’t suffered from a cold or flu in years prior to their diagnosis. The explanation was probably not that they didn’t have infections during this period, but more likely that their bodies were unable to fight these infections by producing necessary symptom indications.
Many conventional drugs try to inhibit and suppress symptoms — sometimes leading to even more serious symptoms. Conventional (allopathic) physicians do not usually recognize the new series of symptoms as being related to the old. Thus, they treat them as new and unrelated problems.
Did you know that a fever is the body’s attempt to activate the immune system’s white blood cells and defend itself from infection? If a person is given a symptom-suppressing medication, fighting the fever too soon, they will be less able to fight the actual infection.
Homeopathy does not seek to remove or suppress symptoms. Its goal is to recognize and remove the underlying cause of these symptoms. This is why a homeopath will work toward understanding the whole person — including their body, mind and emotional state — before prescribing a remedy.
Homeopathy works with nature rather than against it. It uses the disease symptoms to its benefit rather than fighting them or trying to palliate them. Disease is an expression of the body’s natural healing capacity. Homeopathic medicines support the body’s natural self-healing impulse in order to overcome the illness and consequently, restore itself back to health.
Homeopathy is about curing diseases, not merely about getting rid of symptoms. When you take an aspirin, you may alleviate the symptoms but you do not address the cause of the trouble. Most modern drugs work by merely suppressing or covering up the symptoms. That is why, for example, they have names with the prefix “anti-”, which means “against” – like antihistamines, antidepressants, antispasmodics, antibiotics, anticoagulants, etc.
Homeopathy is based on a “whole person” approach. In homeopathy, the remedy or treatment program is customized and individualized to the client, with the intent of removing the underlying cause.
Although current allopathic medical practice continues to realize that there are connections between mental, emotional and physical conditions, the dominant approach is still to break each symptom down to the smallest degree and to treat that “bit”. As this can be effective in some circumstances, it too often does not take account for the consequences of just treating one part of the body – hence, many accompanying symptoms also have to be treated . In addition, many medicines have toxic side effects that add to the client’s troubles.
Symptoms are the body’s way of communicating an imbalance or a lack of homeostasis. Symptoms are not enemies to be destroyed, rather sacred messengers telling us there is an imbalance deep within.
There are many good books about homeopathy. Good general introductions on homeopathy are:
