Disease is an expression of the body’s natural healing capacity. Homeopathic medicines support the body’s natural self-healing impulse in order to overcome the illness and consequently, restore itself back to health.
Homeopathy is about curing diseases, not merely about getting rid of symptoms. When you take an aspirin, you may alleviate the symptoms but you do not address the cause of the trouble. Most modern drugs work by merely suppressing or covering up the symptoms. That is why, for example, they have names with the prefix “anti-”, which means “against” – like antihistamines, antidepressants, antispasmodics, antibiotics, anticoagulants, etc.
Homeopathy is based on a “whole person” approach. In homeopathy, the remedy or treatment program is customized and individualized to the client, with the intent of removing the underlying cause.
Although current allopathic medical practice continues to realize that there are connections between mental, emotional and physical conditions, the dominant approach is still to break each symptom down to the smallest degree and to treat that “bit”. As this can be effective in some circumstances, it too often does not take account for the consequences of just treating one part of the body – hence, many accompanying symptoms also have to be treated . In addition, many medicines have toxic side effects that add to the client’s troubles.
Symptoms are the body’s way of communicating an imbalance or a lack of homeostasis. Symptoms are not enemies to be destroyed, rather sacred messengers telling us there is an imbalance deep within.
