FIRST AID, ACUTE, CHRONIC …. What’s the difference?

One of the first things to knowisthat not all consultations are the same; an appointment for an acute (sudden onset) complaint such as the Flu will be different from a consultation for a chronic condition such as arthritis.

In order for me to choose the correct homeopathic remedy, you must observe your symptoms, especially peculiar ones – “I have a burning pain, yet desire a hot application” OR “My arthritic pain is worse from sitting still, better when I start moving around”. Changes in your body and mind actually individualize the disease and point to the remedy you need. This process may be simple or complex, depending on the issue. A minor illness with a few well-defined symptoms will easily lead to the correct remedy. A complicated, chronic illness with many factors is more difficult. It is helpful to divide medical conditions into three different groups: first-aid, acute, and chronic.

First Aid

FIRST AID examples are: Food Poisoning, Cuts, Bruises, Burns & Scalds, Bites, Stings, Sprains, Strains, Splinters, Wounds, Whiplash, Bleeding, Shock, Trauma, Distress, Fainting, Fractures, Concussion, Hypothermia, Chill, Sunburn, Heatstroke, Allergic reactions and more.

Homeopathy is extraordinarily helpful in these situations and is generally easy to select a homeopathic medicine. Serious first-aid issues require immediate medical attention and remedies can be given while waiting for emergency assistance.

Acute

ACUTE is something that has a finite timeline, meaning that it has a beginning, a middle, and an end… yes, it has an end. Acute illnesses are relatively new without any past history, and usually have a short duration, such as coughs, colds, flu, stomach upset (diarrhea), hay fever, bladder infections, earaches, headaches and indigestion. These illnesses can often be treated effectively using homeopathic medicines. Acute emotional states such as anger, sadness, grief, and anxiety will also respond to homeopathic treatment.

Severe acute illnesses, which would normally require medical or surgical intervention in a doctor’s office, emergency room, or hospital are not appropriate for home treatment. Homeopathic remedies can be given while waiting for emergency care or on the way to the ER.

Treating acute problems at home with the assistance of a trained homeopath can be a very gratifying experience. You will be gratified and empowered to see yourself and your family respond well to homeopathy. It can also save a lot of unnecessary and costly visits to the doctor or emergency room for simple problems that can be treated homeopathically.

Chronic

CHRONIC conditions are deep recurring symptoms with a long duration, they stay with us and don’t spontaneously resolve. There are no natural tendencies to recover, and usually medical attention is needed.

Chronic illnesses are long-standing conditions such as allergies, asthma, hormonal imbalances, migraines, eczema, rheumatoid arthritis, depression, anxiety, autism, PANDAS and autoimmune diseases just to name a few.

Homeopathic methods, when used correctly, lead to excellent results. However, chronic issues should always be treated under the guidance of a trained professional.

Finding a homeopathic remedy for a person with the flu is relatively easy, when clear symptoms are present. Giving a remedy for a person with arthritis is much more complex, and involves a lengthy consultation from a trained practitioner. It may involve not only physical symptoms, but possible deep-rooted mental and emotional factors as well.

Sometimes what appears to be a simple acute illness is a sign of a deeper and more complicated condition. Recurrent ear infections, for example, can be treated with a homeopathic remedy to strengthen the body’s immune system and to prevent future occurrences.
